Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need for the trial session?
You must have access to a computer with a broadband internet connection and a headset with a microphone. If you do not have a headset with a microphone, we may be able to do the trial session by telephone instead. For more details, see our technical recommendations.

What kind of help can I get?
We can help with particular subjects or specific homework problems. If you have homework, the exercises can be scanned and emailed to us or faxed. Remember...we don't do the homework for you. We coach you on how to do it.

What must parents do?
Parents are expected to help their child in the learning process. This includes reminding the student of their tutoring schedule and making sure they are logged on to the computer 5-10 minutes before the start of their session. Parents should try to provide a distraction free environment so the student can concentrate.

How much do tutoring sessions cost?
Personal tutors can cost from $40 to $75 USD per hour. Online tutoring with Tutor Amigos is from $12.99 to $19.99 USD per hour. For more details, see our packages and prices.

Why should I invest in my child's education?

It is very simple. The more educated one is, the more likely it is that s/he will earn higher wages.

Did you know, the pay of the average high school graduate fell 17 percent from 1973-1999? "By contrast, workers with an advanced degree earned 20 percent more in 1999 than in 1973. This finding,...suggests that the payoff to increasing the skills of the workforce is at an historically high level."

Should the online tutoring sessions in Math and Science be in Spanish or English?
It depends on the level of English of the student.
"By overwhelming margins, Latinos say it is very important that English be taught to children of immigrant families." Pew Hispanic Center/Kaiser Family Foundation National Survey of Latinos:Education."

English is not only important in the United States. It is the language of international business. If you hope to participate in the global economy, a strong command of English is essential.

Tutor Amigos can help you get there by offering online tutoring in Math and Science for non-English speakers all the way to advanced English-speaking students.

What days of the week and hours are sessions available?
Sessions can be scheduled 7 days a week between 8:00am - 1:00am Eastern Standard Time. Please contact us if you need online tutoring outside of these hours.

How many sessions should I take?
Every student has different needs. In general, we recommend a minimum of 2 sessions per week.

Why should my child continue studying during vacation?
"The 180-day U.S. school year is short by international standards. Japan’s school year, for example, runs about 240 days a year. By the end of high school, children in Japan have had the equivalent of four more years of schooling than American children. Although it would be desirable to use the 180-day school year more constructively, one thing is clear– more time on task helps students learn." "Inequality, Too Much of a Good Thing", Alan B. Krueger,Princeton University and NBER, April 16, 2002
